Single Status / Job Evaluation

Dear Colleagues

As you are aware, Cardiff Council’s single status package is to be presented to the EBM (Executive Board Meeting) September 15th.  If the proposals are accepted, the respective trade union’s, UNISON, GMB, UNITE, will then send the package to our respective legal advisors, for their approval.

If our Legal Advisors, approve the package, road shows will be held for all members. Presentations will be made, and all Trade Union’s UNISON, GMB, UNITE, will be present to answer any queries you may have.

Time line of events:

1.15th September EBM report is presented to the Executive for

    their approval. If approved.

2. Dates of Road Shows, will be advertised for all staff.

3. A comprehensive booklet will be sent to all staff, with FAQ

    ( Frequently asked Questions).

4. End of September/ October, Road Shows, will take place, for

staff, with separate one’s for Teaching Assistants.

5. During this period, staff will receive their grade.

6. Trade Union members, will be balloted.  PLEASE NOTE, ONLY

TRADE UNION MEMBERS WILL BE ABLE TO VOTE

7. If members accept the package, and return a yes vote, then a

collective agreement will be signed, and single status will be

    implemented from April 2012.

This is a brief outline, of up and coming events, however, we are mindful that you will have many queries, in relation to Single Status/Job Evaluation.  We will have dedicated phone lines, which will be open from Monday 19th September.  These numbers are  029 20 873154 or 029 20 873628.  The telephone lines will be open from 8.30am until 5pm Monday to Friday, however, when everyone has had their grades, the lines will be opened up on the weekend, and for longer periods within the day. As we anticipate, there will be many queries.

Please note, that the normal UNISON office number, will not be taking any calls to deal with Single Status/Job Evaluation, so please make a note of the numbers above, if you wish to have a query answered.

I appreciate this is a very anxious time for everyone, especially with all the upheaval that the Council is currently undergoing.  We will be updating you by a letter to all members, as soon as we have received a response from our Legal Representatives.

A Job Evaluation update will remain on the front page, however if you would like to receive updates to your personal e-mail address, please add you name to the Mailing List.

Many Thanks

Branch Secretary

Welcome to our branch website. UNISON represents public sector workers all across the country and is Britain's biggest union, representing almost 1.3 million people across the UK's public services.

Cardiff County UNISON is lay member led with only a small number of full time posts in the branch. Our work relies on our team of stewards and officers without whom we would not be able to function. At present the branch is fortunate enough to have quite a number of activists together with two branch administrators, employed by Unison, who job share. All branch officers and stewards are full time employees of Cardiff County Council and mostly undertake Unison work in addition to their substantive posts. All branch appointments last for 12 months or until the annual general meeting held every March when re-election is required. Any member of UNISON working in local government in Cardiff is eligible to apply for a branch officer post or to be a branch representative. If you wish to stand for one of these roles please contact the branch initially for a nomination form which must be signed by two Unison members from your service area.
